Los Angeles, CA – Coro Southern California held its second annual Summer Family BBQ on Sunday at the home of the Honorable Mike Roos in the San Fernando Valley. Despite the heat, Coro graduates and supporters turned out for a sun-drenched afternoon of burgers, snow cones, ice cream and fun. Several electeds were there, including former Los Angeles City Controller Rick Tuttle, former Los Angeles City Councilman David Cunningham Jr., California Assembly Speaker Emeritus Mike Roos, Los Angeles Community College Trustee Mona Field and Los Angeles City Councilman Bernard Parks. Everything was “on the record” as members of the 4th estate attended, including Shirley Jahad, host of All Things Considered on KPCC 89.3 FM, and Randal C. Archibold of the New York Times. A slideshow of the BBQ is available here.

“What a great summer day to see old friends and make new ones,” said Coro Southern California President and CEO, Don Pierro. “Our Coro family goes back over 50 years here in Los Angeles and it’s fun to see everyone with their loved ones and significant others.”

From a jumping bouncer for the kids, shaded umbrellas and a swimming pool to cool off, a good time was had by all. There were alumni there dating back to the early 1960’s as well as graduates from this past May. A number of Coro “Follow the Leader” t-shirts were sold and proceeds from the sponsored event benefitted the Coro Public Affairs program—which begins early next month.

“I want to thank our host, Mike Roos, as well as all of our event sponsors: Peggy Funkhouser; Bruce Corwin and Metropolitan Theatres; Jackson, DeMarco, Tidus and Peckenpaugh; the Mike Morrison Company; Bud and Carmen Weisbart; the Mary Chambers Consulting Group; and Andrea Van de Kamp,” said Pierro. “We couldn’t have done it without you.”
